Ongoing New Member Class
Approximately every quarter, Pastor Jon Church begins a new session of C.L.A.S.S. (Christian Life and Service Seminar). These hourly sessions, held on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. over a ten-week period, serve to introduce persons to the fellowship and ministry opportunities through Katy Park Baptist Church. Since we have people from many different church backgrounds, this seminar is designed to clearly explain the purpose and direction of our church. The purpose of C.L.A.S.S. is to help you become all that God wants you to be, by learning to grow in Christ and serve Him gladly. If you're interested in participating in the next session, please contact Jon Church to express your interest. The sessions will be conducted in the Pastor's Study.
Current Study Topics of Summer Life Groups
The Adult Life Groups have begun new studies on Sunday mornings from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The Adult I Class, led by David and Carol McCandless has just begun a new study, "Prayer: Communining with God in Everything." The Friends Class continues to use the Access Materials designed specifically for the mentally challenged. Our other adult life groups; Adult II led by Ben and Lorna Sparks, Newly Married led by Brent and Lisa Cloud, and Adult Womens Class, are all going through "The Story". We also have classes for all ages, from Nursery through Senior High Teens. These classes are also going through "The Story". If you haven't already plugged into a small group, these studies will be a great opportunity to connect with fellow class members.
The Story is an abridged, chronological Bible that reads like a novel. There are no verse references, and Scripture segments are seamlessly woven together with transition text into a single grand narrative. For those intimidated or overwhelmed by the unabridged Bible, The Story helps people understand God’s Word more fully and engage with it more easily.
Simple, accessible, and easy to use, churches are finding The Story a powerful way to engage their people in Bible reading like never before. As The Story brings the Bible to life, the broad scope of God’s message will penetrate hearts. People of all ages will be swept up in the story of God’s love and God’s plan for their lives. For the next 30 weeks, our church will be going through "The Story" together. Come join us on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings and experience "The Story" for yourself!
Mission & Evangelism Opportunities
Katy Park is a church on mission!
We encourage every member to find a ministry that channels their passion for others. Whether it is serving in the Community Cafe, helping the local domestic abuse shelter, or going on mission trips in the U.S. or abroad, there is a place for everyone to plug in.
Our Cookie Creation ministry can often be found at local events. This ministry helps children decorate a sugar cookie which gives us an opportunity to share with them the truth that they are God's creation, just as the cookie is their creation.
Every year we lead a missions team to New Orleans to carry the cross of Christ through the streets of Mardis Gras. And every other year we take a whole church family mission trip to a destination within a 10 hour drive of Sedalia. This trip allows children through senior adults a chance to go on mission and create memories of Christ's work in their lives and the lives of others.
We are passionate about our partnership with Mission OKC, a ministry to inner city kids in Oklahoma City. The partnership arose out of our 2015 summer mission trip to Oklahoma City where we saw God show up in amazing ways in the lives of children from numerous housing projects, under the leadership of Chad and Anna Clement.
S.A.G.E. (Senior Adult Group Evangelists)Meets Monthly
The Senior Adults of Katy Park, ages 55 and older, have a great time of fellowship as they meet on the second Friday of each month. The meetings, held in the Fellowship Hall, begin at Noon with a contributory lunch, with meat and drink provided, followed by a devotional or guest speaker. The meetings are concluded by 2:00 p.m. For details or questions about the monthly meetings, please contact Joyce Lilly.
Sisters in the Spirit Bible Study Begins
The Sisters in the Spirit Bible Study, held in the Commons Room of the Read Center Apartment Complex, is going through "Your Spiritual Authority" by Charles Capps. This group meets each Tuesday morning and invites all ladies interested to attend.
Ladies' Bible Study
A new ladies' group study will be meeting on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m, starting June 7. They will be going through the study "Armor of God" by Priscilla Shirer.
"All day, every day, an invisible war rages around you — unseen, unheard, yet felt throughout every aspect of your life. A devoted, devilish enemy seeks to wreak havoc on everything that matters to you: your heart, your mind, your marriage, your children, your relationships, your resilience, your dreams, your destiny.
But his battle plan depends on catching you unaware and unarmed. If you're tired of being pushed around and caught with your guard down, this study is for you." (Taken from LifeWay.com)
Come and join us for this amazing study!
Men's Ministry Begins new study
Our Men's Ministry will be beginning a new study, ACT LIKE MEN, on May 10th at 6:30 p.m. They will be moving their meetings to the second Thursday of every month, starting in June, at 6:30 p.m.
Sunday Evening Prayer and Fellowship
Beginning April 17, the church will be open for those who wish to spend some time in prayer upstairs or partake in some family fellowship downstairs. Doors will open at 6 p.m. For more details, contact Melanie Curtis or Lorna Sparks.
"Parking Lot" Campaign
Our first phase in paving our church parking lot is underway. Our goal for Phase I was set at $15,000 and Praise the Lord, we have reached, and even exceeded, that goal! Work can begin soon on the entrances. We will also be having a water shed survey completed prior to paving the handicap spaces. In an effort to keep our costs to a minimum, the men of our church will be doing much of the labor themselves. Please be praying about what you can give and/or how you can help. A lot more funds are need to fully complete paving the lot, so all donations will be very much appreciated.
