Ongoing New Member and Discipleship 101 Classes
Approximately every quarter, Pastor Jon Church begins a new session of C.L.A.S.S. (Christian Life and Service Seminar). These hourly sessions, held on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. over a ten-week period, serve to introduce persons to the fellowship and ministry opportunities through Katy Park Baptist Church. Since we have people from many different church backgrounds, this seminar is designed to clearly explain the purpose and direction of our church. The purpose of C.L.A.S.S. is to help you become all that God wants you to be, by learning to grow in Christ and serve Him gladly. If you're interested in participating in the next session, which begins February 16, please contact Jon Church to express your interest. There's still time for you to join us!
Discipleship 101 is another ongoing instruction held during the Life Group Hour. This class is for anyone who wants to grow in discipleship and knowledge of the Bible. We encourage all who have completed C.L.A.S.S. to take this course. It will be offered multiple times and will be approximately 12 weeks long. See Pastor Richard DeFord to sign up for the next session.
Current Study Topics of Winter Life Groups
The Adult Life Groups have begun new studies on Sunday mornings from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The Adult I Class, led by David McCandless, has begun a study in Philippians entitled "Be Joyful." Ben & Lorna Sparks have begun leading the Adult II Life Group with a book study entitled "When Life Is Hard" by James MacDonald. The Men's Class will soon begin a study of "Gray Areas: Finding Truth When Life Isn't Black and White," by Mike Glenn. The Women's Class will be focusing on biblical life applications in "Too Comfortable." The Friends Class continues to use the Access Materials designed specifically for the mentally challenged. We also have classes for all ages, from Nursery through Senior High Teens. If you haven't already plugged into a small group, these studies will be a great opportunity to connect with fellow class members.
"EXTREME MAKEOVER," Church Edition
Beginning in March 2013, our Wednesday and Sunday evening schedules went through a "revamping." Wednesday evenings now include prayer meeting, Adult and Youth Bible studies and Kidz Life activities from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., followed by Worship Team rehearsal from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday evenings took on a whole new look as well:
The first and third Sunday evenings are set aside as "Faith & Fellowship Nights." What that means is that we will be doing mission projects, Acts of Kindness, outreach activities, special worship services, etc., as a "church family." The upcoming schedule through the middle of May will include a Family Devotion Training entitled "Training Hearts, Teaching Minds" on March 16. Future dates will include two other Family Devotion Training sessions ("Making the Most of Easter" and "Evolution vs. God"), a Mission Night and possibly a Talent Show Night. Plan now to be a part of each of these special evenings.
The second and fourth Sunday evening services at the church will be canceled. On these "Faith & Family Nights," our church families are encouraged to spend that time building relationships -- within their own family units, with friends, with neighbors, and with fellow church families. We will encourage you with fresh ideas to grow your faith and your family at home with devotions and ministry ideas.
On the four occasions each year when there is a fifth Sunday on the calendar, also known as "Fifth Sunday Fun," special activities and events will be planned (i.e., game night, talent show, movie night, holiday parties, etc.). March 30 plan to attend the "Change a Life" Tour at the Mathewson Exhibition Center at the Missouri State Fairgrounds. There will be performances by Audio Adrenaline and Kutless. Tickets can be purchased through Katy Park Baptist Church and many other churches in the Sedalia area, as well as the Shepard's Place. General Admission is $20 if purchased prior to March 30. Tickets will be $25 at the door.
Don't miss out on any of these activites, as they are sure to have a positive impact on the spiritual condition of your families.
Missions and Outreach Team Formed
Our Missions and Outreach Team, led by Richard DeFord, continues to have monthly meetings on the third Sunday of each month at 5:30 p.m. We invite all who are interested in helping plan and participate in the outreach arm of our church to attend these meetings. Contact Richard DeFord at (660) 287-2505 for more information.
Mission Opportunities Abound
1. The movie, "God's Not Dead," will play at the Galaxy Theater in Sedalia on opening night, March 21. It is anticipated that the movie will show for at least 7 days. Katy Park agreed to purchase 500 tickets to show a large enough commitment to bring the movie to Sedalia. Pastors are encouraged to call Richard DeFord or Jon Church to reserve blocks of tickets for their congregations. Katy Park Baptist Church has reserved 50 tickets for the March 22, 7:10 p.m., showing for our congregation. If that evening is not conducive to your schedule, please see Richard DeFord to purchase tickets for another night or purchase them at the theater. However, the tickets you can get from Richard will be slightly less expensive. This would be a great outreach to friends and family that will spur conversations about what we believe and why. Questions like "Is there a God and why do I believe?" will hopefully be explored.
2. Our church has set a goal of $1600 for the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for Home Missions. Donations will be accepted through the end of April. Please prayerfully consider the level of your support of our home missionaries.
3. Katy Park will serve a meal at the Community Cafe on April 18. Donations of food supplies and volunteers to help prepare and serve the meal will be needed to make this night a success. These nights have a dual purpose -- we not only feed them physical but spiritually as well -- so volunteers are also needed to mingle with the people and reach out to them in a spiritual way.
4. Our Annual Easter Breakfast will be served in the Fellowship Hall on Sunday, April 20, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Please remember that this is a great opportunity to invite your friends and neighbors to our church. A special Lord's Supper Service will be held during Morning Worship. What a great opportunity to share the message of Jesus' sacrifice for the lost and dying world!
S.A.G. Group Meets Monthly
The Senior Adults of Katy Park, ages 55 and older, have a great time of fellowship as they meet on the second Friday of each month. The meetings, held in the Fellowship Hall, begin at Noon with a contributory lunch, with meat and drink provided, followed by a devotional or guest speaker. The meetings are concluded by 2:00 p.m. For details or questions about the monthly meetings, please contact Joyce Lilly. The next meeting will be held on March 14.
Winter Bible Study for Women's Ministry
The Women's Ministry has resumed their Winter Bible Study on Thursday evenings. Meetings will be held each Thursday evening through at least the end of March. All meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. in the Church Library. Debbie Church will be leading the study entitled "Who We Are in Christ."
Men's Ministry Begins Study of "10 Choices"
The Men's Ministry will meet on March 11 and continue their study, "10 Choices: A Proved Plan to change Your Life Forever," by James MacDonald. Ben Sparks will lead the study and Stan Jobe will prepare a light dinner. Dinner will begin in the Fellowship Hall at 6:30 p.m. with the study to follow. Check out the signup sheet in the church foyer to add your name to the dinner reservations.
Lifetouch photographers will be setting up for our "Family & Friends" Church Directory on April 24 through 26. Each church family will schedule a professional portrait session and receive a free 8X10 of their choice as well as a copy of the Church Directory. The more families who participate, the better our directory can be. The schedule of appointment times should be available around the second week of March. You will also have an opportunity to invite your friends and extended family to participate in the photoshoots. Only church members will be included in the directory, but all who participate will receive the 8X10 photo as a "thank you" for participating. Check this website for more information to be shared closer to the event. Volunteers will be needed to help on the actual photo shoot dates. If you are interested in helping, please check out the signup sheet on the Ministry Table for available time slots.
"Parking Lot" Campaign
Our first phase in paving our church parking lot is underway. Our goal for Phase I has been set at $15,000. To date, we have slightly over $14,500, so we are trusting we will meet our goal so that work can begin soon, at least by the spring. In an effort to keep our costs to a minimum, the men of our church will be doing much of the labor themselves. Please be praying about what you can give and/or how you can help.
KATY PARK YOUTH & KIDZ LIFE NEWS
TAG -- You're It!
One Sunday night every month, parents, youth workers and youth are welcome to meet and discuss all things concerning the Your Ministry. It is open to those desiring to seek the Lord's direction for the youth of this fellowship. The your program here doesn not exist to just give you more things to do, but to lead, train, and equip this up and coming generation in their walk with Jesus Christ. TAG meets the first Sunday evening of each month at 5:30 p.m.
CAT Meetings Planned
If you would like to be a part of this team and help plan the events and teachings of Kidz Life at Katy Park, please contact Brooke Spratley. Meetings will be held on the first Sunday evenings of each even-numbered month at 5:30 p.m. A complete list of meeting dates is posted on the bulletin board at the top of the basement stairway.
Bruce & Brooke Spratley have begun programs for Royal Ambassadors (RAs) and Girls in Action (GAs) at Katy Park. The week meetings will be held each Wednesday evening at the church from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. for children Grades 1 through 5. Both organizations are Bible-centered, church-based Southern Baptist Missions education for boys and girls. The boys' organization, commonly referred to as RAs, is based on 2 Corinthians 5:20 ("We are Ambassadors for Christ"), bringing good news of salvation to people everywhere. Girls in Action, commonly referred to as GAs, is a missions discipleship organization where the girls learn about, pray for, give to, and do missions work. We are excited about this new missions emphasis for our young people and hope that you will cover the leaders and the children in your prayers as they begin this journey into missions-led ministry. The children will soon begin earning merit badges in various areas. If you are interested to teaching a particular skill that you possess, please contact either Bruce or Brooke. They would love to have several adults involved.
Annual Fundraiser to Be Held March 9
The annual fundraiser for our Youth Group, the infamous "Dessert Auction," will be held in the Fellowship Hall on March 9. A pot luck lunch will be held just prior to the auction. This annual event has proved to be quite entertaining as members of Katy Park try to outbid one another on the delicious desserts donated by youth and their families. It's a fun time for all, and all money will go toward supporting youth activities.

"Light up Missouri" target window is for a Day of Service on Palm Sunday weekend, April 12 or 13. The purpose of "Light Up Missouri" is to do servant evangelism in ministry projects in moments, days and seasons of service. Churches are being challenged to identify meeds their community leaders consider "impossible" and approach them in a Day of Service or a Season of Service (4-6 weeks). Longer-impact Days of Service should kick off then and possible extend into spring and possibly summer months. And Moments of Service can be anytime! For more ideas, list of Bible providers, and planning tips, go to www.mobaptist.org/evangelism/light.

This year's event will be hosted by New Hope Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 22, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. This annual event has proven to be an uplifting evening of fellowship, excellent food and a wonderful opportunity to share with each other how God uses us. As in the past, we invite each church to participate. No mission/ministry project is too "small" or "large" to share with the group, as it may encourage others. If your church would like to set up a booth or be interested in presenting a brief talk, please contact the Mission Office (826-2070) or Stacy Brown at firstname.lastname@example.org or 660-221-0414.
